STUDENTS PROMOTED TO MIDDLE SCHOOL

This time of year we always begin to reflect on the pending transtions for our students, wishing all of our Barringer Bee's the very best in their future endeavors.

With this in mind, we choose to say thank you to the numerous personnel who have made these transitions possible. Certainly, we can begin with every teacher that has shared in the academic and personal development of our 5th graders. Their efforts are unsurpassed along with supportive parents who have partnered in the endeavor to ensure their children reach this milestone with a healthy approach to learning and a positive attitude toward their academic futures.

We also can thank our leadership here at Barringer in the form of Mrs. Range, Ms. Jones, and Mr. McKinney. Their efforts daily in ensuring that our school is safe and that learning is taking place at all levels should not be overlooked. We also want to thank our administrative staff in the office, all teacher assistants, our cafeteria personnel, our maintenance team, our parent advocate, our ancillary faculty, bus drivers, and every member of the Barringer PTA. These individuals commit themselves to Barringer Academic Center in ways too numerous to count. Their collective efforts contribute daily to the experience of every student and for that we are grateful. A heartfelt thank you is certainly in order.

Thanks for your time as you view our Grade Level News and People and Projects pages to reflect on learner experiences here at BAC. And again, CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR 5th GRADERS!

HAPPENINGS

 REFLECTIONS FROM 5th GRADE

by Adari Mitchell

My name is Adari Mitchell and I want to start off by saying what a wonderful school Barringer is and what an amazing time I’ve had here. And now that the year is ending, I’ve been thinking about the fun times we’ve had together. I’ve made new friends and got even closer to the ones I have met before. I can’t express how thankful I am for such great teachers. I want to thank my fifth grade teachers for such a great year. Ms. Miller, Mrs. Farris, and Mr. Cavers have told us all to be the best we can be. Even when I wasn’t confident in myself, they were confident in me. My peers were equally as confident in me. I want to thank you guys for believing in me every step of the way.

I remember when I entered Barringer as a fourth grader, I came somewhat at the end of the third quarter. I was so nervous. Well, nervous and excited. I was “nervocited”. I stayed glued to my mother’s hand the entire time until she left. But, after she had left, I was calm and pleased to see how nice and welcoming everyone was. My teacher told me I had nothing to worry about. It was like I was already apart of the family. In fact, as soon as I walked in, I heard someone yell, “ WE HAVE A NEW STUDENT?!” and then he dabbed. It kind of made me laugh because I’ve never seen someone so excited about a new student before.

Towards the end of fourth grade and all throughout fifth grade, my growth increased dramatically. The fact that the staff and others wouldn’t give up on me, made me believe in myself and others.

As the former president of India, A.P.J. Abdul Kalam said, “Never stop fighting until you arrive at your destined place-that is the unique you. Have an aim in life, continuously acquire knowledge, work hard, and have perseverance to realize the great life.”

So, what is holding you back from doing the things you really want? You are. Only you can tell yourself what you can and can’t do. It might seem like the end right now, but it’s just the beginning. So we should use this opportunity to reach our goals and accomplish our wildest dreams.

My homeroom teacher, Ms. Miller told us that when people say the sky's the limit, they’re mistaken. There is no limit. Reach as far as you can. And when you’re done, reach even higher, because you can do it. If you believe you can make it, you will make it. We are the future. And it starts right here, right now. I wish you all well on your voyage to sixth grade. Thank you.

CHESS EXPERIENCE

A Player's Perspective

by Olufemi Ogunwale

Chess is a great game and I would definitely recommend it for everyone. Through the Chess Club at Barringer you go on multiple trips to different places for chess tournaments. Most recently, I traveled to Nashville, TN for the National Chess Elementary Tournament with my teammates from the Chess Club at Barringer. This event was for kids from grades K- 8 and there were kids from places like Michigan, Illinois, Oregon, Washington, Texas, and Tennessee. By far, Texas has the largest pool of chess players and I enjoyed meeting students from all over.

We also had three students that placed at nationals, receiving individual awards for Barringer: Rishi Jasti, 3rd place, K-3 U1000, Pranava Kumar, 8th place, K-3 U1000, Rohan Hansalia, 8th place, K-5 U900.

Our K-3 U1000 team won 2nd place in this event and the members were Rishi Jasti, Pranava Kumar, Ramya Puttagunta, Leonardo Lemaisonett, and Murari Raghavan!

Also, the following members of the team traveled and competed as well: Shourya Bangaru, Pushpita Behera, Taran Bellam, Aanya Bharadwaj, Jay Bhatt, Shwetanshu Chakraborthy, Saanvi Kasera, Dheena Kumar, Lola Ogunwale, Grisham Paimagam, Oliver Sari, and Henry Zhang.

The experience was great and I can’t wait to go back next year and represent Barringer with my friends. I would also like to thank our coaches and parents for their support throughout the year.
