About Oikos
Oikos is the Greek word for "family". This newsletter is designed to inform Barringer Academic Center's Learning Immersion and Talent Development (LITD) family of schoolwide happenings. To that end, we seek to educate and advocate for every student, parent, and teacher in the Barringer family. Our goal is to support our School's learning immersion themes: Empowering, Enriching, Exploring, and Engaging in the learning process.
The LITD theme is a component of Charlotte Mecklenburg's Department of Advanced Studies. There are six schools within the CMS system that are currently identified as LITD schools. These schools engage learners from kindergarten through second grade to prepare them through planning and curriculum designed to promote talent development certification. LITD schools also service identified talent development students in grades 3 - 5 via magnet programming which prepares them for matriculation at multiple IB and magnet middle schools within CMS.
The Four E's of Learning Immersion and Talent Development are Explore, Enrich, Engage, and Empower.
