PEOPLE & PROJECTS

An Elementary School Reflection by Cathlyn Howell

Some people think elementary school is just, well, a school. But it's not, really. You learn so much more than how to multiply fractions, or how to persuade someone straws should be made of paper. What you do and how you act in elementary school can shape you your entire life. You meet people in elementary school that you can see on the sidewalk 5 years later and laugh about the weird Camp Harrison games. When your grandkids ask you to tell a story, you can smile at the heartwarming tales of chicks you and your friends hatched in science. I can tell my friends “I knew them!”, when one of you changes the world. We carry ties from these parts of our childhood all through our life, and they shape who we are. Elementary school does teach us facts, but it also teaches how to be who we were meant to be, and I can't wait to see who all of us turn out to be.

The Barringer Experience by Tabea Nett

Barringer Bees, my name is Tabea Nett and can you believe that you won’t be hearing those words every morning from now on? I know I can’t. My experience at Barringer has been extraordinary, from when I came here in 1st grade to this very day. In the beginning of 1st grade, we had 5 people in our class, and it was an amazing year thanks to my great friends and wonderful teacher, Ms. Beaube. In second grade, I was still in Ms. Beaube’s class but our class size increased to 9 people by the middle of the year. 3rd Grade in Ms.Will’s class was a wonderful year at Barringer because Ms. Will was a very kind teacher and prepared us superbly for our first EOGs and 4th grade. Ms. Mondanaro was a great 4th grade teacher, and I especially loved the many plays we produced including one very memorable one about the Revolutionary War.

Finally, this year was truly a blast! Every field trip, from Camp Harrison, where we had a great time exploring the outdoors and bonding, to Starbase, where we made model rockets and learned a lot about science, 5th grade at Barringer has been so much fun. One of my favorite parts of the year has been going to buddy classes every Friday and having fun with our kindergarten friends in Ms. Abernethy’s class. I also enjoyed doing makerspace every Thursday with Ms.Passe’s class. But what undoubtedly made this year so great, was our amazing teacher Ms.Ashworth. She has led us to success in all areas, made every day fun, and helped us be prepared for middle school.

I would like to thank all of my teachers, special area teachers, my parents, the pta, all of our Barringer staff, all substitutes, and our bus drivers, for making my time at Barringer an experience to remember. But most of all, I would like to thank each and every one of my classmates and peers, for making my time at this school the most fun experience ever. You have shined a light on the dark times, and I am looking forward to seeing most of you in middle school. And remember, Bee safe, Bee respectful, Bee helpful, Bee successful, and Bee a scholar. And have a great day.

Math Olympiad by Lukas Samra & Pearl Singh

Nearly all of 4th and 5th grade students participated in Math Olympiad at Barringer Academic Center. Many students were up to the challenge of working through the problems and understood the importance of solving each question. One student names Anthony Yang was in the top 2% with 23 out of 25 questions correct. I think he is a hard worker and that he really likes math. My thoughts are that I would recommend Math Olympiad because it is a good learning experience. It was certainly challenging and it made my brain “work out” a lot. Some of the questions were very difficult but I know the importance of not giving up.

Fifth Grade Visits Nascar Museum by Calvin Cutler

The field trip to the nascar hall of fame was so much fun and we learned so much at the same time. First they should us a video about the history of nascar it was really interesting. Then they taught us about friction and the different tracks they used and how it affected motion. And finally they let us feel the different tracks and use a simulator that showed what it was like to drive a race car. I learned a lot and had a lot of fun at the nascar hall of fame I would definitely recommend it.

Finding Cinderella by Sarah Jones

Cinderella's Ball was a grand event at Barringer Academic Center as the entire school community came together to contribute on many different levels. Food, fun, and the attempt to problem solve were all activities that encouraged us to celebrate every student at Barringer. We were also delighted that Mrs. Metcalf was the princess of the evening and she wore her tiara with honor. Thanks to everyone who shared in this experience and worked to ensure that it was a success for all students.
